Just a note for the new year

I was in the middle of nowhere and I feel like I am the very bad person to many.

I owed many people which I met by chance through the years with their supports and even sacrifices to my journey.

As a kid, and still a kid, I did not realize that I should do something to SHOW THEM how I feel grateful for them and that I should do something in return to that.

And when I start to think as an adult, I know that I will never return them all what they have given me, at the right timepoint of life, which is can not be measured by money or time but by love and gratitude.

The habit of focusing on action rather than expression have put me go further in some specific fields of interest but it have put me backwards to the rest of society.

As a adult, but still a kid, I have to learn to express that would want to do anything good to everybody in my ability in my fields of expertise, as what I have been doing for years without recognition or with misrecognition from my beloved ones.

I am always thinking big and always found my like-minded to share and learn from each other, but I forgot to think small with the persons I have strong dependence on.

I saw a big conflict in me.

I have to solve it.

I need to keep what describes me as a specific person to the society.

And I must change to integrate my role as specific person with the other as a normal person.

It will be very hard to do.

But that's what I should do in order not to waste my life doing things that my beloved ones do not benefit from.

The last thing for this note I would want to say: I love what am doing now in community activities, though sometimes misinterpreted as I am spending money as a rich man to charity funds and we all know that is not true, because I find it a good way for me to return what the community, through specific persons, have given me for years.

I believe in common knowledge of good karma. The more you do good things, the more you receive good things as well.

Everything happens for a reason. And if you can do something good for others' children, they can also do something good for your children too.

The three poems of Lò Ngàn Sủn

This lunar new year, I read by chance these three poems and found it very interesting. Lò Ngàn Sủn is a minority ethnicity's poet in Vietnam. He has a famous poem named "Chiều biên giới" (Afternoon at border) which was rearranged into a song with the same name. In this post, please enjoy my literal translation of his three poems I mentioned above. In the photos are the full text of Vietnamese versions taken from the Ethnicity and Development Newspaper.

THE BEAUTY
"Who wrote your name by sunlight
Who draw your image by moonlight"
(Dáy folk song)
The beauty looks like snow
Touch and feel hot
The beauty looks like fire
Touch and feel cool
People not thirsty - will be when see the beauty
People not hungry - will be when see the beauty
People wanna die - will not want anymore when see the beauty
Oh!
The beauty is dream
Hang in front of everybody's eyes!

BEING OLD, PAIN, DEATH
Being old is something so fearful
Why do we make others getting old sooner?
Pain is something so horrible
Why do we make others getting so much pain?
Death is something so terrific
Why do we make others die?
Oh God, who can predict
How long that man will make others suffering?

MISS
Since there is miss contests
The sky is higher
The soil is more fertilized
The forest and trees are with more flowers and fruits
The stream flows more powerful
The river is greener
Homeland
Country
Is raised higher than before
By the steps of the beauty.

Bạn quên ta rồi có phải không? - Do you forget about me?

Cáo tật thị chúng - 告疾示眾 - Báo bệnh công khai - To publicize illness

"Cáo tật thị chúng" (Chinese script: "告 疾 示 眾", English: "When having disease I tell everybody") is poem by Mãn Giác zenmaster (1052 – 1096). It is said that he wrote the poem when he was having a disease, and he wrote it to advise other people. The highlighted image of the poem is apricot, a kind of flower that blossoms in springtime in Vietnam.

Notice the contrast between the first and last line; also, the last line of the poem is a fragment sentence, without a verb, showing the state of unborn, unmoving, undying. While the stream manifests as endless waves rising and falling, the nature of water stays unmoved, uncreated. Now look at your mind, and see thoughts coming and going, arising and vanishing. The mind is just like a mirror that shows you the images of all things reflected. All images come and go, but the reflectivity is still there, unmoving, undying. Now, listen to the sound of two hands clapping, then listen to the sound of one hand clapping. Do you hear the soundless? The sound comes and goes, but the nature of hearing ability is still there even in your sleep, unchanging, unmoving, undying.

Xuân đi, trăm hoa rụng,
Xuân đến, trăm hoa nở.

Tuổi già hiện đến từ trên mái đầu.
Chớ bảo xuân tàn hoa rụng hết,
Đêm qua, một cành mai trước sân.

When spring goes, all flowers die.
When spring comes, all flowers smile.
Before the eyes, all things flow endlessly.
Over the head, old age comes already.
Don’t say that with the spring gone, all flowers fall.
Last night, in the front yard, a branch of apricot flower.
